I’m 43. I live on the outskirts of a small Montana town — one that has three stop signs, two bars, a blacksmith, and no grocery store. Sharing the hovel I call home is my husband, Brian, our dogs, Levee and Wicket, and our cats, Chirpa, Gimmick, Alice, and Pigeon.

What’s a Suzzerpuss?

I have no idea.

My grandfather (Pappy) called my sister and I Ralph, Clyde, or Charlie, depending on the day. My grandmother (Nanny) called us both Suzzerpuss.

When I told her that I’d picked Suzzerpuss for a webpage name, she asked me what a Suzzerpuss was. So, I guess no one knows.

    Every Single Place I Roam

    July 26, 2020 /

We went camping again. I didn’t take any videos this time because it’s not something I’m fond of doing, but also, I find myself living in the moment these days, not worrying about being able to see pictures of the moments later. Mostly… This time we went hiking by the reservoir in this picture:   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Rebma Belanger (@suzzerpuss) on Apr 15, 2015 at 7:30pm PDT It didn’t look like that this year. The water was full of an odd spongy algae that was fresh and green on the rocky bottom and a drying brown on top, like a mushroom meringue.…

And Now You Are Wearing the Right Hat

    July 5, 2020 /

We hadn’t returned to our favored campsite in Ten Sleep, Wyoming for five years, despite planning to go every summer — multiple times a summer, no less. A week or two ago I suggested we head that way, kind of in an off-hand way, the way I might suggest we hike the Appalachian Trail or start a dandelion farm. However, Brian ran with the idea, and so we went. We are both in much better shape than we were five years ago. Instead of hanging out in the tent, watching Duck Dynasty on the laptop, and drinking whiskey while we watch coyotes hop around nearby, we decided to go out…

You Do What You Want and Reap What You Sow

    June 25, 2020 /

I mentioned not very long ago that I prefer doing the treadmill late at night, which is as true now as it was then. However, sometimes we have to put aside what we prefer to make way for what’s best. Man, this bugs me. I am not a morning person. I don’t spend forty minutes dragging my slippered feet around, eyes squinting against the brightness of the day, reaching blindly for a coffee mug, yawning, and scratching my fuzzy robe against my hip. I don’t even own a fuzzy robe. I am quick to wake up, but I am not interested in functioning for a good, oh, I don’t know,…

But Let Me Take You on a Journey

    June 1, 2020 /

Spring took forever to get here this year. Honestly, it was still snowing in the middle of May. But it’s here now, and we are enjoying as much time outdoors as possible before the sun bakes everything into a crunchy sepia, and the grasshoppers invade. Brian took a week of vacation for his birthday (today, June 01), as he does every year. Initially we planned an annual return to Ten Sleep to camp in the “desert,” where we lived for a bit back in 2014. However, plans change. This year we spent time cleaning up the yard, finally getting the first mow of the year in, getting properly sunburned, and planting…

You Could Have Done Better but I Don’t Mind

    May 22, 2020 /

This is a product review. I’m going to begin including some of these from time to time, because I tend to link products but never really speak much about them, and because I want to. The product was purchased by me. There are no affiliate links. Nothing is sponsored. If you don’t want to read the review, close your eyes now. This is a Fitbit Charge 3, my third Fitbit tracker. My second was a Charge 2, and my first was a Flex. I’ve loved having them. When my Charge 2 died, I used the Flex until the new one arrived because I desperately didn’t want to lose my step count.…
