Bet You Thought That I Was Dead, but I’m Not Dead

Hey there! At least it hasn’t been a full year.

There were quite a few things that fell by the wayside over the last few years. One of the things that took a backseat was nutrition/fitness. Specifically, our eating habits shifted, but I don’t think those will be returning to what they were. For a while we were only eating a protein, starch, and vegetable every evening. It became so boring, food really did become something I had to consume, which I guess is probably a healthier way of looking at food than being giddy over it, but it made making dinner a chore. I still use Cronometer, and we still eat healthy foods, I just don’t keep them as simple as I did.

In addition to adding flavor back into food, I’ve broadened my focus, which used to be calcium and low-sodium (target being around 500mg per day, naturally), to now include higher protein (at least 100g per day) with an attempt at increasing my magnesium, when possible. Magnesium boosts are difficult to fit into my calorie allowance. I have a draft on a “magnesium cup” I used to make for breakfast, but that was around 600 calories for 291mg of magnesium and 784mg of calcium, which is nice, but way too many calories for me to devote to just magnesium and calcium.

I’m not avoiding fat or carbs, but I do find myself naturally eating less of those when trying to pack as much nutrition as I can into one meal per day. I have chosen to go the route of eating once per day, not for health reasons, and I don’t recommend it. It makes every calorie matter. I don’t have the stomach capacity to easily consume all I’m trying to reach per day in one sitting if I include anything extra. For example, the magnesium breakfast cup contained oats, which added more than 100 calories. I don’t need oats and can’t afford to include 100+ wasted calories in my single, balanced meal.

Exercising had/has lapsed a little. Our treadmill screen failed and while the whole thing is still under a parts warranty, it’s apparently no longer eligible for updates, so we just decided to buy a new one. I’m quite irritated by this because the new ones have significantly smaller screens and shorter belts. It doesn’t really feel like an upgrade. What are you going to do? A smaller screen is better than one that doesn’t work at all. Could I walk outside for free? Nope.

Anyway, we are back on track now. Does that mean I’ll return to posting nutrition and fitness content no one is interested in? Likely. Does that mean I’ll be posting somewhat regularly again? Probably not.
